On 4/26/20, an adult female entered a local service station in the Downtown Reno District.  She approached the clerk and said that her ex-boyfriend had taken her against her will in another state and that she needed the police.

The clerk, suspecting a domestic disturbance, notified Downtown Reno Partnership Ambassadors.  The Ambassadors arrived on scene and observed the agitated suspect in front of the business.  An Ambassador engaged the suspect in conversation and positioned himself between the suspect and the door to the business to keep him occupied until Reno PD officers arrived and detained the suspect. Initial investigation revealed that the victim was taken against her will in early April and that the suspect used fear, physical force, and coercion to detain her. Reno PD officers arrested the suspect for kidnapping, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and an unrelated outstanding warrant.

According to the RPD, “This victim was in a long term dangerous and violent situation. Today when she reached out for help, she was taken seriously by all involved and the Ambassadors responded in a manner which kept the victim safe, and likely prevented the suspect from fleeing until officers could arrive and detain him.”

We couldn’t be prouder of the Downtown Reno Ambassadors for their support of the Reno PD and their dedication to the community. Congratulations on a job well done!
